Questions

Why does the transparent part of my PNG turn black?

JPG has no transparency, so a converter must choose a color to put in its place, and some choose black. FileOrca fills it with white. To keep the transparency, keep the PNG.

Does PNG to JPG lower the quality?

A little, because JPG compresses with loss. For photos the difference is small. For screenshots, logos and text with sharp edges, JPG can add faint blur around the edges, so keep the PNG for those.

Why is my PNG so much bigger than a JPG?

PNG stores every pixel without loss, which suits logos and screenshots but is heavy for photos. JPG drops detail the eye barely notices, so a photo often shrinks a lot.

Does turning a JPG into a PNG improve the quality?

No. The PNG holds exactly what the JPG had, with no extra loss, but it cannot bring back detail that is already gone. Use it when an app or a form asks for a PNG, or before you edit the picture.

Does my image get uploaded anywhere?

No. FileOrca converts the image on your device, in your browser. Open your browser's Network tab while you convert: no request carries your file.

Privacy

Your images are converted on your device and never sent to a server. The new files leave out the photo metadata, including the GPS location.
