Questions

Why do websites save images as WebP?

WebP files are usually smaller than JPG files for the same picture, so pages load faster. Many sites send WebP to browsers that support it, and your browser then saves what it received. A JPG made from it opens in every editor and form.

What happens to a transparent background?

JPG cannot store transparency, so FileOrca fills those areas with white. To keep the transparency, pick PNG instead.

Can I convert an animated WebP to JPG?

Yes, but a JPG is a single picture. The animated WebP becomes its first frame, and the result tells you so. To keep the movement, keep the WebP.

Why is the JPG bigger than the WebP?

WebP is a newer format that stores the same picture in fewer bytes than JPG. Going back to JPG gives up part of that saving in exchange for a file that every app and website accepts.

Can I just rename the .webp file to .jpg?

No. Renaming changes only the name, and the data inside is still WebP, so some apps and forms still refuse it. Converting writes a real JPG.

Does my image get uploaded anywhere?

No. FileOrca converts the image on your device, in your browser. Open your browser's Network tab while you convert: no request carries your file.

Privacy

Your images are converted on your device and never sent to a server. The new files leave out the photo metadata, including the GPS location.
